Introduction: The ‘getting ready’ phase of a wedding day is often overlooked but holds some of the most intimate and genuine emotions. As a dedicated wedding photographer, I believe these moments, like the one captured in this striking portrait, are crucial to telling your complete #weddingstory.
Main Content
This close-up portrait beautifully illustrates the quiet anticipation and confident style of the individual. Softly lit, it highlights smooth skin and subtle features, with a direct and engaging gaze. The modern haircut and minimal makeup enhance their natural elegance, setting a perfect tone for the day ahead. My approach to #gettingready photography is all about an unobtrusive presence, allowing authentic emotions and unposed moments to naturally unfold. This documentary style ensures that every fleeting second – from the deep breaths of anticipation to the joyful preparations – is preserved with artistic integrity.
The Vision Behind the Shot
For this shot, the aim was to focus entirely on the individual, isolating them from any distractions. The soft lighting was meticulously planned to illuminate the face gently, creating a sense of calm and intimacy. The contemporary styling and natural expression were key to conveying a sense of personal confidence and excitement before the grand celebration. It’s about capturing the essence of the person, ready for one of the most significant days of their life.

Technical Approach
This image was captured in autumn using my Canon EOS 90D with an EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. I selected a 35.0mm focal length for a relatively wide field of view, perfect for encompassing the mood without distortion. To achieve the sharp focus on the subject and a beautiful, shallow depth of field, I shot at f/3.5. A shutter speed of 1/200s effectively froze any movement, and an ISO of 200 kept noise levels to a minimum, ensuring a clean, high-quality image. No flash was used, relying on the soft ambient light to create the desired mood. Special thanks to Megan Lawson for her exceptional hair and makeup artistry (HMA), which perfectly complemented the vision for this shot.
