Introduction: The wedding ceremony is the emotional core of the day, a moment of profound commitment and intimacy. This image captures just that, freezing a split second during an #eastmeetswest wedding ceremony in Swindon, preserving the heartfelt connection between the couple as they exchange vows.
Main Content
As a wedding photographer, my goal is always to document these irreplaceable moments with sensitivity and artistic vision. The image here focuses tightly on the couple’s hands, symbols of their union, highlighting the intricate details that make their story unique. The bride’s elegant white dress with its beautiful beading and veil contrasts wonderfully with the groom’s distinctive teal suit featuring a black paisley pattern. The presence of delicate henna designs on the bride’s wrist adds another layer of cultural richness to this multicultural celebration. Behind them, the soft blur of family and friends, some wearing masks, and the teal chairs of the Upper Stratton Baptist Church setting provide context without distracting from the central focus.
The Vision Behind the Shot
My vision for this shot was to encapsulate the intimacy and focus of the ceremony itself. By using a longer focal length of 132mm on my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, I was able to isolate the couple’s clasped hands and upper bodies, compressing the background slightly to draw the viewer’s eye to their connection. Shooting at f/5.6 provided enough depth of field to keep their hands and faces sharp while allowing the background to become a soft wash of colour and form, symbolising the support of their community surrounding them.
Client Experience & Value
For couples, these ceremony photos are among the most treasured from their wedding day. They capture the raw emotion, the commitment, and the deep connection shared during the vows. My approach to wedding photography blends artistic storytelling with a documentary style, ensuring that the essence of your day, from the quiet anticipation of ‘Getting Ready’ to the joyous energy of the ‘Reception’ and the intimacy of the ‘Ceremony’, is preserved. You receive not just photographs, but a tangible legacy of your love story, beautifully told through compelling visuals that reflect your unique personalities and the atmosphere of your celebration.
Technical Approach
This image was captured during the Spring using a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV paired with the EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. I selected an aperture of f/5.6 for a balanced depth of field and used a shutter speed of 1/25s. An ISO of 2500 was necessary to work with the available light conditions inside the church, accepting a slight potential for noise to ensure the moment wasn’t missed. No flash was used, relying on the natural light to maintain the ambient feel of the ceremony.
Featured Individuals
This particular wedding was the UK ceremony for Jordan and Fiona, part of an extended celebration across two countries. Their choice to blend Western wear for the ceremony and Eastern wear for the reception made for a truly unique and personal celebration.
Key Concepts
This image embodies key wedding concepts such as the #ceremony, #wedding, rings, service, vows, and the #weddingday as a whole, specifically focusing on the #wedding-ceremony itself. It also highlights the unique East meets West theme of this Swindon wedding.
