This is what a 70th birthday portrait session looks like when it’s done properly: the person in their own environment, doing what they actually do, being photographed by someone who isn’t asking them to perform anything they wouldn’t normally perform.

THE BOARDWALK PORTRAITS
The boardwalk bridge in the Forest of Dean gave the session its best light and its most natural subject: Val crossing it, pausing on it, laughing at something on it. The Canon 5D Mark IV at ISO 3200, the 50mm f/1.4, the natural dappled light of the forest doing what it always does when it’s behaving itself.
