The Colour of Ceremony

The red sari was the first thing she put on. It arrived precisely as it should: folded with the gold embroidered border visible, the weight of the fabric audible when it moved. The session that followed covered four completely different garments, three distinct backdrops, and a progression from formal traditional portraiture to something closer to contemporary editorial.

What connected all of it was the quality of what she was wearing and the understanding — visible in every frame from the first to the last — that clothing this considered deserves to be photographed with equal consideration.

RED SARI — GREY BACKDROP

Against grey seamless, the red sari took on a different character entirely. The grey pulled the warm tones of the embroidery forward and gave the traditional jewellery — the large circular earrings, the bindi, the textured gold necklace — a prominence it didn’t have against white. All the Hero-tier images come from this sequence.

GOLD LEHENGA AND BLUE SARI

The lehenga introduced later in the session was a complete change in visual character. Where the sari presented as a single flowing form, the lehenga presented as architecture: multiple distinct elements, each with its own visual weight. The royal blue sari with the black sequined backless blouse closed the session as its most contemporary combination.
