Capturing Jordan & Fiona’s Unique East Meets West Wedding Ceremony in Swindon: A Story of Love & Heritage

Introduction: Every love story deserves to be beautifully told and meticulously preserved. This exquisite photograph from Jordan and Fiona’s #WeddingCeremony perfectly encapsulates the emotion, intimacy, and unique cultural blend that defined their special day.

Main Content

As a wedding photographer based in Swindon, Wiltshire, I had the immense privilege of documenting Jordan and Fiona’s enchanting East meets West wedding. Their UK ceremony at the Upper Stratton Baptist Church was a beautiful culmination of an extended wedding celebration across two countries, bringing together Western traditions with Eastern elegance. The image itself captures a deeply personal moment: the groom, dressed in a distinctive teal suit with a black paisley pattern and a charming floral hairpiece, gently holding the hand of his bride. She radiates beauty in her white wedding dress, adorned with intricate beading and a flowing veil, while delicate henna designs on her wrist proudly display her heritage. This day was a true celebration of love, joy, and the coming together of families.

The Vision Behind the Shot

My vision for this particular shot was to convey the profound connection between Jordan and Fiona during their vows. By focusing on their hands and the subtle details of their attire—the floral hairpiece, the paisley suit, the beaded dress, and the exquisite henna—I aimed to highlight the personal and cultural significance of their union. The blurred background, showing guests and teal chairs, subtly places them within their supportive community while keeping the intimate connection between the couple at the forefront. The moment was captured in Spring, using a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with the EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens, allowing for a perspective that compresses the scene slightly, drawing the viewer into their world.

Technical Approach

Capturing this moment required careful consideration of the available light. I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV paired with the versatile EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. To achieve a reasonable depth of field and ensure both their hands and faces were in focus, I set the aperture at f/5.6. A shutter speed of 1/25s was chosen, which, while on the slower side, was perfectly sufficient for the relatively still moment of the ceremony and helped to gather enough ambient light without resorting to flash. To compensate for the indoor lighting conditions, I opted for an ISO of 2500, accepting a slight increase in noise for a well-exposed image. The focal length was 132.0mm, which provided a lovely compressed perspective, adding to the intimacy of the shot. The flash was intentionally off, allowing the natural light to define the mood of their beautiful ceremony at Upper Stratton Baptist Church.
